enjoysthin.gs blog: Quantifying the TechCrunch effect.

I'd venture to say that most readers of TC are just trying to see what's hot in the tech world, but may not necessarily want to use or sign-up for anything. I kinda avoid TC because there is just so much volume of content and most of it is not interesting to me. I know they are pumping stuff out like a machine. Whereas, if I read something on RWW, Mashable, or some of the smaller tech blogs, it's a little more personal...just a little :). (even though Mashable is starting to pass TC in traffic)

I agree. I didn't expect many signups, I certainly don't sign up for stuff that I see on TechCrunch, but I did expect to see some traffic spike. It was flat though. Totally flat.

Signups, were ever so slightly above average.

I think the RWW crew does a great job of getting into more analysis and detail - and therefor attracts a more analytical audience (and click-throughs?). TC is just for skimming, so folks might not click links embeded halfway through an article.

Traffic generation aside, I was very unimpressed by the coverage we got from TC (exclusive, at the expense of giving the story to others). I wish people would stop seeing TC as a 'tent-pole' blog of the industry, 'cuz it ain't. I mean, more power to them - I still read it daily, but again - I'm simply more impressed with the depth of writing by the RWW crew.
